Happy 90th Birthday 2nd Headstone!

Date: 14th Oct 2019 Author: Hallie Walters

To celebrate our 90th Birthday we planned a celebration at Paccar Scout Camp over the weekend of 28th – 30th June. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts along with their families were invited and on the Saturday afternoon we invited friends of 2nd Headstone & past leaders.

Friday evening saw the usual excitement of being away at camp. Once all the tents were up and everyone was familiarised with the site it was hot chocolate, biscuits and off to bed. Not a great deal of sleep was had by a number of the young people but they were all up and ready for the next day’s activities.

Saturday turned out to be the hottest day, at that point in 2019, so the planned indoor activities were ideal. The morning was spent doing a range of craft activities with a Viking Theme. Swords, shields, brooches and model Viking ships were completed. There was plenty of cutting, sticking, colouring and trying out the finished items!

After lunch there were booked site activities. Tomahawks, Zip wire, Climbing, Crate stacking, Crossbows, Adventure area and Tunnelling. Much fun was had and despite the heat they all tried out the tunnelling bus which was a tad warm!

At 4pm our invited guests arrived for tea and cakes. There was much catching up and lots of memories shared. That evening, 125 present and past members of 2nd Headstone enjoyed a meal together. Our celebration cake was cut by the youngest Beaver and our oldest past member of the Scout association. Our DC Tyler Skerton said a few words and then it was off for a camp fire. After a very busy day it was a very peaceful night.

Sunday morning there were more site activities and a home made water slide. After lunch we completed our AGM.

Our 90th birthday celebration was a great success. We caught up with old friends and made new ones. We tried new activities and learnt new skills. And most importantly we had fun.
