A group of Scout volunteers in Pinner & Headstone have come together to deliver over 1,000 prescriptions across Harrow and Hillingdon since April. Traveling over 400 miles each week, these volunteers ensure a safe and reliable delivery service to those in great need.
They have partnered with local dentist surgeries and pharmacies to take medical and dental prescriptions directly to the door of their patients. The patient will consult with their doctor wo will send the prescription to the pharmacy. The volunteers will then collect up to 20 prescriptions each day and deliver them to the local community: eliminating the need for long queues in public places and increasing the risk of infection. They have also started an Emergency Dental Service which provides essential dental equipment and supplies until they are able to see the dentist.
The aim of the scheme is to reduce social contact in the community and to ease the pressure on local medical services. Tyler Skerton, District Commissioner said: “I am super proud of all of the volunteers who have decided to go over and above during this difficult time. The tenacity to help the local community is truly inspiring!”. The project will aim to continue until schools return and lockdown begins to ease.
